With Mac, you can use Disk Utility to encrypt and protect external drives. To do this, you'll have to erase the drive first so it's best to transfer the files somewhere else before doing this. It's pretty good! I don't think I need to document this one for myself since it's straight-forward as soon as you jump on Disk Utility with the drives plugged-in.
